Fish Oil Prevents Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Dry-Eye Syndrome
I just found an article at WebMD entitled, Fish Oil Benefits your Eyes, in which it discusses how two studies reported at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) indicate that the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil protects the eye from two very serious eye diseases: Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Dry-Eye Syndrome.
According to the article, age-related macular generation is a
“disruption of the center of the retina, the fine nerve net at the back of the eye essential for all fine visual tasks. It’s the leading cause of age-related blindness.” Dry-Eye syndrome is “when a person’s eyes don’t make enough tears. This can lead to scarring of the cornea and vision loss.”
It seems fish oil prevents the leading cause of age-related blindness, so if you’re worried about being able to see when you’re older, you’d best pick up some fish oil. Just make sure you’re not using health-food grade fish oil — Instead, pick up some ultra-refined fish oil because Mercury causes blindness too!
