My mother always gave us a teaspoon of cod liver oil every day. It tasted awful but she had the right idea.

At least you can buy it in little capsules now so you don't get that horrid taste.

I think that by starting your children on a healthy eating plan from the start sets them up for healthy eating for life.

Industrial farming methods tend to produce foods low in nutrients while depleting soil of important natural compounds needed for plant growth. Fish oil is a great way to get high quality nutrients and vitamin D that just aren't available in so many process foods found in supermarkets - even fresh fruits and vegetables in supermarkets are relatively low in many nutrients due to these destructive farming methods.

My toddler has his fish oil by cutting open 2 one gram calsules and adding to warm milk and then adding 2 spoons of Milo and then stirring well. This gets the fish oil to mix with the milk.
I use capsules as they should keep the fish oil fresher than having it from a bottle (it is a hassle to cut the capsule open (snip it at the end) but I think it is worth it).
I also add a yogurt based suppliment but that may not appeal to everyone.
My toddler went from below average speach to having extremely good speach. This could be from his mom's genes (she is a talker)or it could be the fish oil, suppose we will never know.
good luck :)

At what age can we start administering fish oil supplements to children and what is the recommended dosage? Is it indeed necessary to give it to all children? As for pregnancy, I am trying to conceive and am currently taking a vitamin supplement containing a wide variety of minerals and vitamins, including folic acid. However DHA is not included - should I be taking an additional Omega-3 supplement? if so, how much should I be taking and in what form - fish oil, algae based??
