“Fish Oil Relieved My Daughter’s Allergies”
We recently asked our readers for their fish oil success stories and Melissa from Texas wrote in to describe how she successfully treated her daughter’s allergies with omega-3 fish oil:
I use Carlson’s Fish Oil for my daughter. She takes 1 teaspoon every day, and it contains 800 mg epa & 500 mg dha per teaspoon. I originally started giving it to her for ADHD, and hoping it would help her focus. She also started on Concerta. I am not sure the fish oil helps her ADHD, however, what did happen was completely unexpected. She has had terrible seasonal allergies since she was born. She had so many ear infections she had to have ear tubes as a baby. Every year, she saw the doctor for allergies, and used prescription allergy meds, and nasal sprays. When I started the fish oil, she was congested, and had allergy problems. About 4 days later, I noticed she was clear. I thought maybe it was a coincidence. Well they didn’t come back. That was February.
Four days ago (this is May) I changed the fish oil to another brand with a very high ratio of epa and very little dha, which the latest studies say is beneficial for ADHD. They are gel caps. Her allergies were back in four days.
I gave her the Carlson’s tonight, and she is remarkably better in a few hours. I think maybe the ratio makes the difference, and the doses, although I am not sure. Unfortunately, I think the ADHD is the same, the meds help more with that.
Thanks for sharing your story, Melissa, and congratulations on your success with fish oil! I’m sure your success story will be a great inspiration to others that suffer from allergies. Our only concern with Carlson’s Fish Oil is that it doesn’t undergo the third-party purity testing of the International Fish Oil Standards program. For this reason, we recommend See Yourself Well Omega-3 instead. Keep the success stories coming!

I too can say that Omega3 fish oils made a difference with my allergies. Summer was the most unenjoyable time for me. I was trying every over the counter allergy drug I could find. None fully work as they would all make me tired, or just not feeling myself. A friend of mine suggested I try Omega3 fish oil. All I can say now is I wish she would have told me alot sooner.
I recently purchased Omega-3 A.D. from GPRX (Jordan Rubin Founder). I want to take EPA because I am not a fish eater and I want to take GLA (borage Oil) every day for RA.
Can these two supplements be taken together?
I started taking fish oil for the mental benefits. I used to wake up most mornings sneezing and would soon have a runny nose. I have been taking fish oil for about 6 months now and these symptoms are almost completely gone. I assume it is the fish oil but have no proof.
I’m not sure if it’s the same thing, but I used to take fish cod oil when young. It was an Asian brand with the picture of a man and a huge fish slung over his shoulders. It kept me largely healthy and I rarely experienced any health issues during that time. Reading this, I might consider going back on it, although the taste is quite something else.
I worry about mercury and other heavy metals in less expensive fish oil or those soft gel things… not good.
this is fascinating. I started takeing Nordic fishoil, comes in a cobalt blue bottle, and took only a teaspoon a day. I started taking it because I heard of it boosting mood, I am a very moody person, and for it’s brain boosting power, It’s liquid form and with a taste of lemon, not the nicest of flavors but not totally disgusting and I taste no fish. What I was surprised with was a few days before taking it I was having sneezing fits, after taking it my problems were gone. We just taken in a cat, and I am allergic to cats but one night I took a tablespoon of the stuff and I have no problems with cat dander. My eyes are not red and swollen and itchy and I am comfortable with having the cat lay on me. I am looking forward to spring to see how well this oil works. Fish oil is anti inflamatory, allergies are basically inflaming so I don’t think it so much as cures the allergies but stops the inflamation. Or maybe the for allergy sufferers we are just missing vital nutrients to be healthy.
