Omega-3 Fatty Acids Make Criminals Less Violent

April 12, 2006  ·  Category: Alzheimer's and Brain Health

Researches in Norway are supposing that criminals treated with fish oil supplements for several months become less violent. Dr. Havard Bentsen attributes this to the potential of omega-3 fatty acids to reduce aggressiveness and impulsivity, which fish oil has been touted dozens of times in treating children with ADHD. He even makes a rather lofty claim:

The psychiatric researcher argues that a third of violent acts among prisoners can be avoided by giving them an even amount of omega-3 and vitamin supplements.

And he has studies to back up his statements:

Trials in an English and an American prison showed that the prisoners given dietary supplements with omega-3, vitamins and minerals caused 35 percent less violent acts than those prisoners given placebo supplements.

If you’re reading this from a prison right now, perhaps you should consider taking fish oil. :)
