“Fish Oil Relieved My Daughter’s Allergies”

We recently asked our readers for their fish oil success stories and Melissa from Texas wrote in to describe how she successfully treated her daughter’s allergies with omega-3 fish oil:

I use Carlson’s Fish Oil for my daughter. She takes 1 teaspoon every day, and it contains 800 mg epa & 500 mg dha per teaspoon. I originally started giving it to her for ADHD, and hoping it would help her focus. She also started on Concerta. I am not sure the fish oil helps her ADHD, however, what did happen was completely unexpected. She has had terrible seasonal allergies since she was born. She had so many ear infections she had to have ear tubes as a baby. Every year, she saw the doctor for allergies, and used prescription allergy meds, and nasal sprays. When I started the fish oil, she was congested, and had allergy problems. About 4 days later, I noticed she was clear. I thought maybe it was a coincidence. Well they didn’t come back. That was February.

Four days ago (this is May) I changed the fish oil to another brand with a very high ratio of epa and very little dha, which the latest studies say is beneficial for ADHD. They are gel caps. Her allergies were back in four days.

I gave her the Carlson’s tonight, and she is remarkably better in a few hours. I think maybe the ratio makes the difference, and the doses, although I am not sure. Unfortunately, I think the ADHD is the same, the meds help more with that.

Thanks for sharing your story, Melissa, and congratulations on your success with fish oil! I’m sure your success story will be a great inspiration to others that suffer from allergies. Our only concern with Carlson’s Fish Oil is that it doesn’t undergo the third-party purity testing of the International Fish Oil Standards program. For this reason, we recommend See Yourself Well Omega-3 instead. Keep the success stories coming!
